Choy ChengThis First Friday coincides with Choy Cheng a traditional Lion Dance Blessing. Several roving martial arts clubs will be roaming the streets of Chinatown with pounding drums and outstanding displays of physical culture in the form of Lion Dance teams. Neighborhood stores celebrate with long strands of firecrackers and feeding these hungry lions “lisee” or good luck money envelopes. Join us in scaring the evil spirits away and making way for Chinese New Year: the Year of the Tiger!

**TRAFFIC ADVISORY**Streets throughout the area will be blocked for a time in a “rolling closure” behind the lion dance teams & cleanup crews.

Fiber Hawaii 2010: Crossing Boundaries -- Hawaii Craftsmen presents a biennial showcase of contemporary fiber art. Artwork ranges from ceramic to wood to kapa. “Draw–a–Thon” -- an interactive life-drawing studio with live models, and portraits created on-the-spot by students & instructors from University of Hawaii at Manoa Drawing and Painting Program.Stop in and try your hand at drawing from a model while enjoying fresh ale from Sam Choy’s Big Aloha Brewery.

Live from the Lawn: Roots and Rhythm -- Celebrating Black History Month. Rumba Negro, rapper Yung Tunez, Na Hoku Hanohano Award Winners "A Touch of Gold," Trinity Missionary Baptist Church Gospel Choir, blues guitarist Rico Woltz, and the 'Iolani School Tam-Young Jazz Combo. Hosted by Emcee Intrepid. The event features two stages of live music, on the front lawn and the second floor lanai, and is FREE to the public. Food and drinks will be available for sale on both the lawn and courtyard lanai.

:: One Night Stand at the Mendonca Building Courtyard ::
Underwater photography by John Johnson, free dive photographer whose international award-winning works are all captured on a single breath of air underwater. Oil paintings by Kimi Werner, national champion free diver and a local oil painter inspired by the natural beauty of the islands. Original paintings and prints will be available. “Costumes and Coffee in the Courtyard” with TAG: Vintage Clothing and accessories from the Dustyflint Collection with a special selection for Valentine's Day! Donna Matichuk, a Honolulu photographer, presents a collection of black and white photos titled “Patterns of Nature.” Jorge Veras presents his current body of work: Hawaiian nature and landscape scenes. And grab a box dinner from Starpoint Cafe. Enter into the Chinatown Courtyard on Smith Street through the stand of bamboo at the Blue Dragon Gate. This event is free and open to the public.

Chinatown Artist Lofts, Open House -- Join the Hunt Family for an informal tour of the nearly completed studios. Honolulu’s first Artist Lofts complex is opening in Chinatown soon. Now accepting applications! This was one of the first built after the infamous Chinatown fires at the turn of the last century. An ideal mix of residents would include community minded individuals of an ethnic and cultural diversity that would reflect Honolulu’s unique multi-cultural dynamic. Hiroki, Setsuko, and Miho Morinoue -- This exhibition features the Morinoue family of artists from the Big Island who create work that is continuously inspired by each other and their island surroundings.
